Program Description:

Teach - International English School of Liljeholmen  
Stockholm, Sweden

Program Overview

The International English School of Liljeholmen (IES) hosts teacher candidates to complete student teaching requirements. Since IES is a highly regarded school with an International Baccalaureate curriculum, participating candidates have opportunities to develop and refine their practice particularly with regard to promoting global-mindedness in students.

The program is available only for UK students enrolled in the Teacher Education Program. It is offered in both the fall and spring semesters.

  • The opportunity to gain student-teaching experience in either a pre-school, elementary, or secondary classroom.
  • Gain cross-cultural international teaching experience.
  • The opportunity to explore Swedish culture in Söderort, a suburb on the southern-most part of Stockholm, Sweden.

This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students from the Teacher Education Program in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky.

Required Applications
2 | UK Education Abroad & Office of Clinical Practices

Students must complete two applications to participate in this program - one to UK Education Abroad and one to Office of Clinical Practices. 
Complete a survey of interest for the Office of Clinical Practices in the November (for fall) or April (for spring) prior to the semester in which the program takes place.

Academic Credit

Depending on the program in which they are enrolled, students will earn 9 or 12 credit hours from the University of Kentucky.  UK GPA and grades will be awarded by the instructor assigned to the course in which they are enrolled  for the successful and timely completion of all required program activities and assignments, including any required on-campus meetings before or after the international travel.For more information visit the UK Education Abroad Academic Credit website.
  • PRIOR to departure, students taking non-UK faculty courses must complete an Academic Approval Form (AAF) for that coursework.  The AAF indicates how the courses will be used, or course equivalency, once they are transferred to UK.  Upon completion of the term abroad, the transcript should be sent to UK Education Abroad.  Once received, the Education Abroad staff will coordinate transfer of credits to UK.  

  • All students will be enrolled in EAP 599: Study Abroad (1 credit hour) the term they are abroad.



Housing & Meals

Housing will be arranged by the International English School of Liljeholmen. Students are also responsible for all meals during the duration of the term abroad.
