Program Description:

UK Exchange: University of Sussex

Brighton, England, Britain

Program Overview


    The University of Sussex has one of the most beautiful campus locations in Britain. Situated in rolling parkland on the edge of Brighton, the campus combines award-
    winning architecture with green open spaces.

The campus is surrounded by the South Downs National Park, but just a few minutes away from the vibrant seaside city of Brighton and Hove. The university is also less than 90 minutes from London by train, and 25 miles from London Gatwick Airport.

Students participating in this exchange program can choose from more than 1000 courses (called modules in Great Britain) offered in the university's many schools of study, including Business, Management & Economics, Education & Social Work, Engineering, Global Studies, History, Art History & Philosophy, Law, Politics & Sociology, Life Sciences, Mathematical & Physical Sciences, Psychology, and Media, Film & Music (the Medical School is not open to exchange students).

Credits
Students participating in the academic year exchange will register for a total of 120 Sussex credits (60 in fall & 60 in spring).
120 Sussex credits = 30 UK credits

Students participating in the fall or spring semester exchange will register for a total of 60 Sussex credits.
60 Sussex credits = 15 UK credits.


Which UK requirements can I fulfill by taking courses at Sussex?
At University of Sussex courses are called modules.
In the last 2 years, UK students participating on this exchange program have taken modules that have fulfilled UK requirements in A-S, BIO, CHE, ENG, HIS, SOC.

Eligibility
This program is open to undergraduate students from all academic disciplines.
Students must possess a valid passport at the time of application to this program.

Students will be notified by the UK Exchanges Coordinator on how to access the Exchange University application AFTER their UK application has been approved.

Academic Credit

Students will earn transfer credit from the Exchange University. For all successfully completed courses, the credit hours, course title and course equivalency will be indicated on the UK transcript. Students must complete the coursework during this program according to the established guidelines by the Exchange University. The grades earned will be important to progression in future academic endeavors, including graduate or professional school; however the grades earned will NOT be indicated on the UK transcript.   • PRIOR to participating on this program, students must complete an Academic Approval Form (AAF). The AAF indicates how the course will be used, or course equivalency, once they are transferred back to UK. Instructions on how to complete the AAF are included in application materials.
  • Upon completion of the term abroad, the transcript should be sent to the UK Education Abroad office. Once received, Education Abroad staff will facilitate the transfer of credits to UK.
  • All students will be enrolled in EAP 599: Study Abroad (1 credit hour) at UK during their term abroad.



 

Housing & Meals

Exchange students can apply for a room in the University of Sussex's brand new on-campus student village East Slope Residences.

In addition to this offering, students have other options at a variety of price-points including homestays, limited off-campus university housing, or finding their own privately-rented accommodation in the local area. Further details can be found on the University of Sussex Accommodation website.
Students are responsible for all meals during the duration of the term abroad.
