Program Description:

UK Exchange: Seoul National University

Program Overview

Founded in 1946 as the first national university in modern Korean history, Seoul National University (SNU) is an indisputable leader of higher education in Korea, and is known for its quality graduates. 

SNU was ranked 35 in the 2013 QS World University Rankings, 5th in producing CEOs in 500 leading enterprises conducted by the Ecole des Mines de Paris - MINES ParisTech, and is now working towards becoming one of the top ten universities in the world by 2025.

In addition to the world class teaching and research facilities, international students can also enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Gwanak Mountains, and participate in a wide range of traditional Korean cultural activities and sports offered by the more than 300 student clubs and organizations.

A wide variety of courses are available, taught in English and Korean.

UK exchange students wanting to take Korean language classes can enroll in the Korean Language Program provided by the SNU Language Education Institute. There may be tuition fees associated with this program, and you are responsible for paying these.

This program is open to undergraduate students from the UK College of Agriculture, Food & Environment ONLY.

Course Restrictions
The College of Business Administration is not available to exchange students from UK
The Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, and Law are not open to exchange students.
The choice of available courses in the Music Department is limited and must be confirmed with SNU before program start date.

PLEASE NOTE: At SNU spring = 1st semester. Fall = 2nd semester.
The spring course catalog is published in January. The fall semester catalog is published in July.
Make sure you search for courses offered in the semester you will be attending SNU.

Students applying to participate in the spring semester exchange will be officially admitted by SNU in late October.
Students applying to participate in the fall semester exchange will be officially admitted by SNU in late April.

Eligibility
This program is open to undergraduate students from the UK College of Agriculture, Food & Environment ONLY.
SNU will not accept applicants from other UK colleges
Students must possess a valid passport at the time of application to this program.

Academic Credit

Students will earn transfer credit from SNU. For all successfully completed courses, the credit hours, course title and course equivalency will be indicated on the UK transcript. Students must complete the coursework during this program according to the established guidelines by SNU. The grades earned will be important to progression in future academic endeavors, including graduate or professional school; however the grades earned will NOT be indicated on the UK transcript.   • PRIOR to participating on this program, students must complete an Academic Approval Form (AAF). The AAF indicates how the course will be used, or course equivalency, once they are transferred back to UK. Instructions on how to complete the AAF are included in application materials.
  • Upon completion of the term abroad, the transcript should be sent to the UK Education Abroad office. Once received, Education Abroad staff will facilitate the transfer of credits to UK.
  • All students will be enrolled in EAP 599: Study Abroad (1 credit hour) at UK during their term abroad.


 

Housing & Meals

Seoul National University offers a limited amount of on-campus accommodation for international exchange students. 
For students not allocated a dorm room, the SNU Office of International Affairs will assist with locating off-campus housing.
Students are responsible for all meals for the duration of the term abroad. There are cafeterias on campus, and a shared kitchen in the dorm.

Student Life

SNU offers a Buddy Program connecting international students with local students. Sign-up information will be sent to admitted exchange students before the start of the semester.
