Program Description:

UK Exchange: Hamburg University of Applied Sciences

Hamburg, Germany

Program Overview

This exchange program provides an opportunity for students majoring in Information Communication Technology or Media Arts and Studies to complete up to 15 credit hours towards their respective degrees while studying in Hamburg, Germany.

The semester program in Digital Information and Media Culture includes courses in:

  • Current Trends in Knowledge
  • Organization & Information
  • Management
  • Digital Culture & Critical Theory
  • Macro Economy & International Communication Systems
  • Search Engine Technology & Search Engine Use
  • Social Media & Innovation

The UK College of Communication and Information has confirmed that courses taken at HAW Hamburg will transfer back to UK as ICT 300 level electives. All participants must complete an Academic Approval Form prior to departure for Germany to receive specific confirmation of how their courses will transfer back. HAW (Hochschule fur Angewandte Wissenschaften) Hamburg was founded in 1970 and is one of the largest applied sciences universities in Germany. The 16,000 students enrolled at HAW Hamburg include more than 2,000 international students representing 100 different countries. The university's Faculty (College) of Design, Media & Information is located on the Finkenau campus, just a few minutes bike ride from the Alster Lake.

PLEASE NOTE: UK applicants officially admitted by HAW Hamburg will be required to make a payment of 290 Euros (approx $330) to HAW Hamburg by early December. This 'semester contribution' goes to the Students' Union and the Students' Welfare Fund, and includes the semester ticket giving unlimited travel on Hamburg's public transport system. Payment is required in advance.


Eligibility
This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Information Communication Technology or Media Arts and Studies.  
Students must possess a valid passport at the time of application to this program.

Academic Credit

Students will earn transfer credit from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. For all successfully completed courses, the credit hours, course title and course equivalency will be indicated on the UK transcript. Students must complete the coursework during this program according to the established guidelines by Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. The grades earned will be important to progression in future academic endeavors, including graduate or professional school; however the grades earned will NOT be indicated on the UK transcript.   • PRIOR to participating on this program, students must complete an Academic Approval Form (AAF). The AAF indicates how the course will be used, or course equivalency, once they are transferred back to UK. Instructions on how to complete the AAF are included in application materials.
  • Upon completion of the term abroad, the transcript should be sent to the UK Education Abroad office. Once received, Education Abroad staff will facilitate the transfer of credits to UK.
  • All students will be enrolled in EAP 599: Study Abroad (1 credit hour) at UK during their term abroad.



 

Housing & Meals

HAW Hamburg offers a variety of accommodation options, including halls of residence, and private apartments. For more information visit the Accommodation & Housing page on the HAW Hamburg website.  Students are responsible for their own meals for the duration of the program.
