The University of San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) is a modern private liberal arts university with four campuses throughout Ecuador. UK students typically participate in the exchange to the main campus, located in the quiet valley town of Cumbaya, approximately 30 minutes by bus from Quito.
Students have access to the full curriculum at USFQ and enroll in five to six semester long courses in the liberal arts and sciences. Students may participate in any course in any department, provided that they meet the discipline and language prerequisites.
For an additional fee (approximately $12,500) UK students can choose to participate in the semester exchange program to USFQ's campus in the Galapagos Islands.
Intensive Spanish Language Course Included
The Fall semester/Academic Year exchange includes a two and a half week intensive Spanish language course before the start of the Fall semester.
For this reason the minimum language requirement for Fall and Academic Year applicants is 3 semesters of university-level Spanish.
The intensive language course is not offered in Spring semester and applicants for this term are required to have 4 semesters of university-level Spanish.
90% of courses at USFQ are taught in Spanish so proficiency is essential.

Housing & Meals
The USFQ Office of International Programs arranges homestays with host families in Quito. This includes a private room, breakfast and dinner, and laundry service. Most families live 20 - 40 minutes from campus. The host family will pick you up from the airport.
Every international student at USFQ has the option of becoming involved in the EcuaBuddies program. This opportunity allows international students to become connected to USFQ degree-seeking students to gain an introduction to USFQ, meet local friends, and share in Ecuadorian customs and social events.
USFQ also offers a number of student clubs in a variety of interest areas including theatre, tango, chess, ecology, and cycling, to name a few. If students cannot find what interests them, they can always start a new club!
Each semester the OPI offers international students the opportunity to participate in optional excursions to many parts of Ecuador for a nominal fee. These trips can be for the day, weekend, or even a week. Past trips have included Tiputini, Mindo, Peru, and the Galápagos Islands. Options vary each semester.
Costs and cancellation policies vary by program. Please click on the Program Cost and Budget information page for each semester. Be sure to consider the associated UK costs, program specifications, and related travel expenses.
