PLEASE NOTE: This budget contains some estimated amounts. The actual cost for some items (i.e. meals, airfare, passport) will change according to each participant’s individual needs.
Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships and financial aid to help cover the costs associated with education abroad programs. Please see our scholarship website for additional funding opportunities.
INFORMATION RELATED TO PROGRAM EXPENSES
PROGRAM FEE: Participants will be charged a program fee (see the program brochure website for more details).
Deposit: Participants will be charged a $300 deposit. The deposit must be paid online and is non-refundable. This $300 is included in the advertised $1,250 program fee.APPLICATION FEE: All UK participants on this program are assessed a non-refundable $50 Education Abroad at UK Application Fee. This fee will be charged to the participant’s UK student account at the end of the month in which the application was created. Applications submitted in error must be withdrawn (by you) before the end of the month in which the application was created in order to avoid the application fee.
Cancellation Policy: This fee is non-refundable.
EMBEDDED FEE: All UK participants on this program are assessed a $100 UK Education Abroad Embedded Fee. This fee will be charged to the participant’s UK student billing account during the semester in which the program occurs (Spring or Fall). This fee is included in the advertised $1,100 program fee.
Cancellation Policy: This fee is non-refundable for participants who withdraw from the program abroad on or after the program start date. Withdrawals prior to this date will receive a full refund of the Embedded Fee.
TRAVEL MEDICAL INSURANCE: All participants on this program will be enrolled in travel medical insurance, political security and natural disaster evacuation services, for the duration of the program via the University of Kentucky. The cost is $10.50 per week (7 days) and is included in the Program Fee. Additional coverage, if desired can only be purchased in week increments. Please see the EA Travel Medical Insurance website for more information. Participants who carry personal insurance policies that meet the minimum standards of international medical insurance coverage as established by UK may request a waiver of the mandatory coverage by completing the Travel Medical Insurance Verification Form.
Cancellation Policy: Education Abroad at UK will cancel future coverage and issue a refund for unused coverage to participants who withdraw from the program abroad.
PASSPORT & VISA: Participants must have a passport valid for at least 6 months after the expected date of return to the U.S. The Wildcat Passport Acceptance Facility accepts U.S. Passport applications. For more information about U.S. Passport applications please visit the U.S. Department of State website. U.S passport holders participating on this program during the spring term are not required to obtain a visa for entry. Non-U.S passport holders must check the Ecuadorian Embassy for visa regulations. It is strongly suggested that students work with a visa expediting service, such as A Briggs or VisaHQ to obtain the visa.
